FAQ

Well... we've got answers to your frequently asked questions.

Do I need to be fit to go hiking?

No. Basic walking ability is enough for beginner hikes.

What should a beginner bring on a hike?

Water, snacks, comfortable shoes, light clothing, and a small backpack.

How long should a beginner hike be?

Start with shorter hikes (2–6 hours) and build from there.

Is hiking safe for first-timers?

Yes—especially when done in groups or guided settings.

Can I hike in sneakers in Kenya?
While possible for very flat trails, waterproof hiking boots are strongly recommended for the mud and terrain of the Aberdares.

What is the best time to hike Mt. Kenya?

Peak seasons are typically January–February and August–September for the best weather.

What if I am the slowest hiker in the group?

At TukoActive, we never leave a hiker behind. We use a tiered system and have “sweepers” (guides at the back) to ensure everyone finishes at their own comfortable pace.

How do I book my spot for a hike?

We offer two convenient ways to book: you can use our manual WhatsApp booking system by texting 0720 632 569, or book directly through our website platform.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the hike?

Hikes usually proceed in varying weather conditions unless it is deemed unsafe. In cases of extreme weather, we reserve the right to alter the route or reschedule for your safety.

Is there a refund policy if I can’t make it?

Yes. According to our Terms & Conditions, we offer a 50% refund for cancellations made 48+ hours before the hike. Unfortunately, no refunds are available for cancellations made within 48 hours.

5. Do I need to be extremely fit to join my first group hike?

Not at all! We have specific “Beginner & Child Friendly” trails like Karuru Falls (14km) and Kilimambogo (13km) that are perfect for those just starting their fitness journey.

6. Will my photos be used on social media?

By participating, you consent to the use of group and trail photos for our community storytelling on Instagram and TikTok. However, if you prefer not to be featured, just let the organizer know before the hike starts
